I did make some art on the trip! It felt right to be drawing there. I wish I could have spent more time doing so. Also, needless to say, the art stores were everything I dreamed of. Big sigh!
I drew this at, you guessed it, Mt. Fuji. I used watercolors on the ride back to work on the colors. GOSH was that mountain so inspiring. It really is so picturesque, and it has such wonderful details to draw. We were able to see it in the morning, but then it slowly disappeared behind the clouds. What a delight to experience her elusiveness.
One thing I loved about Fujikawaguchiko was the way they incorporated Mt. Fuji into everything. In the street signs, merchandise, hats and my personal favorite- the traffic cone. The Japanese are so good at incorporating clean whimsy into everything.
I drew this on the way back from Mt. Fuji as well. The landscaping was wonderful. Everything looks like a large bonsai, which really is an oxymoron when you think about it.
At the temple in Asakusa, I acquired a temple book- goshuinchō. In this, each temple has their own unique stample and signature to include on the accordion pages. Check back for pictures from that as well as my lil art haul!
